Words of Wisdom: Grow Like the Lotus Flower

We forget to give ourselves credit for all we have grown from. I know a few people that have been to hell and back yet, they smile as if they have never known a bad day.

My favorite flower that represents this notion of growing in the worst conditions is the lotus flower.

The lotus flower needs to grow in muddy waters. Even the heat is an infant lotus’s best friend.

The symbolism behind the lotus flower is that even though it endures the harshest conditions, the flower continues to grow.

Surviving a day that feels like the absolute worse only prepares you for the impossible. I love when people are able to smile on bad days.

They inspire me to become better for myself. People that can have a bad day and still feel their best are the rarest of gems.

Be grateful for those who cross our paths that beam light into any room they walk into.

I know we are all unique. We should not compare ourselves to others that have had it worse or better than us. Rather, we should learn from their experiences.

The murkiest of waters has passed through all of us. Please, do not let that stop you from reaching your greatest potential.

Be like the lotus flower. Grow from the worse and be the best you have ever been. I’d like to share a moment in my life where I felt like I was at my worst.

Imagine you’re an angsty teenager. You have met the love of your life but he is a total asshole, mentally/physically abusive to you and talked you into moving out of your house.

You’re so in love with the idea of love itself (not the person anymore) that you live in your car for a month before you crack. You eventually get enough money to rent a motel room for a few days.

You’re thrown around like a rag doll. He reminds you to never question his actions or raise your voice at him. You’re body slammed so hard that your head breaks the porcelain soap holder you find inside a shower.

Being the tough motherfucker you are, you get back up. You find a way to lure him out of the room, you lock him out and you never look back.

I called my parents that day to apologize for acting the way I did. I had never felt so betrayed in my life by someone I thought I loved. I believe this experience taught me how much I shouldn’t withstand.

Growing through the shit you put up with takes a lot of time and self reflection. In my opinion, they go hand in hand.

My decisions in life has led to this moment. Telling you my story gives me hope that I can change someone’s life. This is only a fraction of my life but, I pray that it guides you.

Growth comes in stages. Just like the lotus flower; it starts off as a seed (your innocence) that gets buried in the swampy rivers (hardships in life) to then grow in the harshest conditions (overcoming those difficulties) and blossoms into a symbol of faith (you).

Trusting in yourself and believing that you can overcome anything can truly save your life. Give yourself enough time to grow, heal and regenerate before it’s time to take the next step.

You got this, you beautiful lotus flower.
